UNIVERSITY of LOUISVILLE TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION

The School of Medicine at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty position in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. We seek candidates with a
promising program of research in host/pathogen interactions with a strong emphasis in
Immunology.


Department of Microbiology and Immunology: The Department is strongly research-oriented,
with 20 primary faculty members maintaining major programs in microbiology (virology,
bacterial pathogenesis) and immunology (inflammation, autoimmunity, vaccines and cancer
immunology). Faculty will have laboratory space in the Clinical Translational Research Building
(CTRB) that is fully equipped for research in molecular and cellular biology, including live cell
imaging, genomics, flow cytometry and state of the art animal housing with germ-free facilities

Center for Predictive Medicine for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases (CPM):
The CPM is a university center that facilitates basic and translational research in emerging and
re-emerging infectious diseases. Faculty members of the CPM have academic appointments in
the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering and Arts and Sciences. CPM operates state of
the art BSL-3 laboratories including one of the 12 Regional Biocontainment Laboratories (RBL)
and the only Biosafety Level 3 animal research facilities in the Commonwealth of

Facilities and Research Partners: The School of Medicine provides an excellent research
environment with several nationally prominent research centers including: the CPM; Centers for
Microbiomics, Inflammation and Pathogenicity; Alcohol Research; Hepatobiology and
Toxicology; the Envirome Institute and the Brown Cancer Center. Many of these are also
NIGMS funded Centers for Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE) and offer a wide range of
facilities as well as funding and collaborative research opportunities.


Candidate Requirements: The minimum requirements are a terminal doctoral degree (Ph.D.,
M.D., D.V.M., or equivalent) in the biomedical sciences with productive post-doctoral research
experience. The position offers a competitive salary, an excellent startup package and mentoring
commitment to support development and growth of a robust research program. Candidates will
be appointed on the tenure track at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will
participate in Departmental research, teaching and service activities, with the major component
of their work assignment in research and mentoring students. We invite candidates to consider
and describe how their research programs could utilize the BSL-3 and ABSL-3 research facilities
at the University of Louisville's RBL.
