Position Summary
We are interested in candidates with graduate or post-graduate level expertise in research on host-pathogen interactions. Our projects focus on understanding the interaction between Streptococcus pneumoniae and neutrophils during the course of lung infection and host immune response during vaccination. The overall goal is to uncover the temporal changes in transcriptional and signaling profiles of the host and bacteria during infection in naïve and vaccinated hosts with an ultimate goal of improving preventative approaches. This project will utilize animal models of pneumonia and in vitro assays to model neutrophil/bacterial interactions.  

Responsibilities will include:
    • Conducting routine experiments following appropriate protocols and procedures 
    • Recording results and maintain accurate records of experiments 
    • Performing data interpretation and assists with basic statistics and analysis and communicate findings with the PI 
    • Assisting in writing manuscripts related to the project 
    • Assisting others where expertise is needed and performs weekly lab maintenance duties

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Microbiology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the area of host/pathogen interaction
  • Experience and knowledge in the area of microbial and/or mammalian metabolism
  • Experience in RNA-Seq
  • Experience working with research animals (specifically, mice)
  • Number of months/years of experience required after obtainment of highest degree: 0
  • Ability to publish and present research data
Physical Demands  
Salary Range $45,000 - $55,000
